Many people are not happy with the current changes made by President Donald Trump. Though he has explained the dire need to reform Social Security. It must be noted that Millions of Americans rely on social security benefits. It is anticipated that many other changes would also be there throughout the year, hence it would be noteworthy to see what and how it will impact the common lives of the citizens, as it will certainly impact the amount on paychecks.
It is being reported that, in 2025 about 73 Million of American citizens will receive Social Security Income. This is the figure provided by the Social Security Administration (SSA). Converting the benefit in currency will give a figure of approximately $1.6 trillion in benefits which is being paid on an annual basis.
However it should be noted that Trump’s agenda might impact the benefits paid by SSA directly which might impact the citizens of age above 65. It is also being reported that the program is not on solid ground and the benefits may decrease over the course of years. This can only be stopped if Congress can make some solid changes in the Finance sector.
ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL: Some handpicking by Donald’s Trump administration in Social Security.
On May 21, 2025, the House of Representatives passed the One Big Beautiful Bill. It has detailed spending details with tax regulations in an elaborate manner. It is being reported that President Donald Trump has said that he will finish the federal taxes on Social Security and other benefits. But the bill does not have any regulations regarding the vanishing of those taxes.
However there’s another regulation to this where it will raise the standard deduction by $4000. It will be for citizens above the age of 65 years. It will be started in 2025, and will be there till 2028. One important thing to be noted here is that it did not aim directly for SSI, rather it will decrease the tax burden for the citizens who are retired.
There is an active debate going on till the end of June 2025 by the Senate. They have faced disagreement between Republicans and opposition from Democrats both. One technical point writes that the versions of Senate and House are different. The Senate version is quite elaborative and provides more medicaid and many adjustments for tax provisions.
No Social Security Benefits for non citizens, Trump signs the memo.
One of major blows to the non-citizens by Donald Trump,in the field of Social Security Benefits. Trump has directed the Social Security Administration to stop providing the benefits to non-citizens who are not eligible for it. This action will also include expansion of SSA’s fraud prosecutor programme. Also it will investigate the earnings for people who are above 100 years, and people with mismatched records.
The memo says that if a person is non citizen and has the permission to work in the US, he should be paying all the Medicare and Social Security taxes. And he/she is eligible to take the benefits if they are entitled to the eligibility criteria. And for access to medicare, a permanent resident who is now non citizen must have resided here for 5 years.
